THE FAMILY JOURNEY

1

Online screener

A parent tells us about their child and their concerns through our detailed online screener, so we understand exactly what they're looking for.

2

Case history call

Our team builds a full case history - gathering the background, context and clinical details. This allows for much better matching between referrals and therapists.

3

Paired with a therapist

Referrals are shared with the best therapists based on conditions, age group, location etc. Then assigned based on which therapists are available and want to take it on.

4

Therapist intro call

Before any services, the family & therapist meet on a short intro call - a chance to check it's the right fit for both family & therapist.

5

Get started

With the intro call done and the case history in hand, sessions can begin. From this point, the therapist decides on the appropriate care pathway.

"It freed me up to focus entirely on what I do best, delivering therapy."

They handle the marketing and admin that used to eat my week. I've grown a real practice around my life, not the other way round.

Nothing. There are no up front fees with Saltroad. We only take a percentage on sessions you actually deliver - so we only earn when you do. And you have total control over your pricing.

No. You remain an independent practitioner - Saltroad isn’t your employer. You stay in control of your own pricing, availability and which referrals you take on, while we handle the admin, payments and marketing and put a team and community behind you.

In some ways, yes - but with far more freedom than a traditional associate position. Like an associate, you get a steady stream of matched referrals and a team behind you, without having to find your own customers. Unlike a typical associate role, you set your own prices, choose which referrals you take on, decide your own hours and care pathways, and keep 80% of your fees. You stay an independent practitioner throughout - we provide the referrals, systems and support, and leave the clinical decisions to you.

No, not at all. Many therapists work on Saltroad alongside an NHS or existing private role, taking on as few as two hours a week. You set your availability and are in total control of the referrals you take on and how many.

Yes. There’s no minimum commitment and no obligation to take on referrals until you’re ready, so many therapists use Saltroad flexibly - including over the summer around a term-time role. You set your own availability, so you can take on more during the holidays and dial it back down when term starts again. Your account stays open in between, ready for you to pick up referrals whenever it suits you.

On paper, yes - but going fully solo is rarely 100% once the real costs are in. You’d cover your own marketing to find customers, software and tools to manage operations, payment systems and process fees - plus the unpaid hours spent on admin, chasing payments and keeping your diary full. Our flat 20% covers all of that, sends you a steady stream of matched referrals, and puts a team and community behind you. Most therapists find they take home more, with far less hassle, than they would going it completely alone.

Saltroad processes all payments for you, in advance of services being delivered. Families pay through the platform and can easily pay in instalments whilst you still get paid in full. Your earnings are paid out every month - so no chasing payments and no getting paid late.

If you’re a member of the RCSLT, then you’re already covered. Otherwise, you’ll need your own professional indemnity insurance, as you would in any private practice.

It’s not a blanket requirement. Each family decides whether they need their therapist to have a DBS check, and whether you hold a valid one is displayed on your profile. That said, we’d generally recommend keeping a valid enhanced DBS check (or PVG in Scotland / AccessNI in Northern Ireland) - it opens you up to more referrals, and if it’s on the Update Service we can verify it quickly.

Each therapist’s needs are different, but we have no shortage of referrals, and will work with you to ensure you have the full caseload you are looking for. We match you only to referrals that fit your preferences, location and availability, so those that reach you are the ones you’re likely to want.

Yes, but we do currently focus most of our resources on children and young people, so adult referrals are currently more limited than paediatric referrals. We’d still encourage you to sign up and get in early as we grow our adult referral pathway.

No - most of our customer demand is for face-to-face services. You’ll also get access to online referrals, but we expect all of our therapists to take on at least some face-to-face work. We’re no longer accepting online-only therapists, as there simply isn’t enough demand for online-only services.

No. Your Saltroad profile is only ever shared with a family when you put yourself forward for a referral - and you always have total control of the information on there.

Yes. We welcome newly qualified (NQP) and overseas qualified (OQP) practitioners, and we have specific pathways and processes in place to support you. That includes access to clinical supervision, mentoring from experienced peers and free CPD, so you can build your hours, confidence and caseload with the right support around you. We’ll match you to referrals suited to your experience, and you’re never under pressure to take on more than you’re comfortable with.

Absolutely. Many of our therapists come straight from the NHS or a salaried role and have never worked privately before - it’s exactly the kind of move Saltroad is built to support. We take care of the parts that usually make going private daunting - finding customers, marketing, payments, contracts and admin - while your onboarding call, dedicated support team and community of fellow therapists help you find your feet. You can start with just a couple of hours a week and grow at your own pace.

We have a dedicated support team, always on hand to help you with any issue - whether it be technical or a customer. Plus there’s a wonderful community of fellow therapists to lean on whenever you need to. We run regular, free CPD sessions and we can give you access to clinical supervision to support you with your caseload.
